Standing in Prayer with Rwanda

Since a Government ruling in 2018, thousands of churches across Rwanda have been forced to close for failing to meet national regulations relating to safety, theological training, and financial accounting. While these measures are presented as part of wider efforts to strengthen accountability and standards, the impact on local Christian communities has been profound. Congregations have been unable to gather to worship, and many pastors have been displaced.

Through Faith2Share’s longstanding relationship with the Anglican Church in Rwanda, recently renewed through a visit by Bernard, we have received a moving report from contacts on the ground. It highlights Christians scattered and struggling to meet, pastors navigating deep uncertainty, and communities that once found strength in shared worship now seeking new ways to remain connected. The closure of church buildings has affected not only worship, but also the mutual care, encouragement, and practical support that sustain Christian community.

Yet even in these constraints, there is a quiet resilience. Our brothers and sisters in Rwanda express a deep desire to sustain their faith, to nurture community in new ways, and to find creative paths for ministry despite limited resources. There is hope that, in time, the Church will adapt — through small groups, new forms of leadership, and even the careful use of technology — holding together what cannot currently gather in the same way. Though we are limited in what we can do, Faith2Share stands with Rwandan Christians in prayer — for the strengthening of faith across the nation — trusting that God will sustain and guide His Church in these challenging times.
